Ah, the words of a newbie......
As we boarded the last ferry of the evening at Kootenay Landing a couple of days ago, I felt the stress the stress of the past several months just sort of flow away. Crossing the lake in the dark, leaning on the chain and watching the wake... I got to wondering.... Where do Kaslo folk go to relieve their stress?
Tap it lite

Re: Surviving Kaslo
Wed, October 5, 2005 - 2:45 PMHi aequitas veritas. Nice to meet you.
I'm not a big California vistor. Three times in my life so far. Did spend about eight weeks there during one - in the desert southeast. My other visits were a drive down the northern coast to the Bay area, and a four day fly into Los Angeles. All told, there are other places higher on my list to see. -

Re: Surviving Kaslo
Sat, October 15, 2005 - 9:47 PMThat line in the song always did give me the creeps.
I'll be in Kaslo for another month or so and then it's back to Montana. It's one of those dilema things. Sometimes I'd like to bag it all and just stay here, but then there's the business of income and all that and there are precious few ways to earn one of those here.
One the other hand, I look forward to getting back to the friends and 'extended' family in Montana, but then I look at the country seemingly turning into a police state and .................. See what I mean, eh?

Re: Surviving Kaslo
Wed, November 9, 2005 - 6:52 PMActually, most travel to Nelson BC. Or they go over to Calgary AB.
Of course, there is an airport at Castlegar BC just south, and from there you can go to France, Fiji, or Florida.

Re: Surviving Kaslo
Fri, December 9, 2005 - 12:10 AMhmm... interesting question... places i have gone to relieve stress:
nelson.
edmonton.
altered states.
vancouver.
castlegar.
argenta/johnsons landing... etc up the lake.
montreal.
bella coola...and some random forest near williams lake...
through the doors of perception.
the east shore, ie, grey creek/crawford bay
mexico.
halifax.
victoria.
calgary.
anacortes island.
guatemala.
hmmm... but you know, its been a long time since i left kaslo to relieve stress...
the truth?
these days i GO to kaslo to relieve stress! hah. i never would have believed it when i was fourteen and ready to napalm the place.
funny. it took... well, like 6 years, but now i crave kaslo. its a treat. i miss it.
ok, maybe i spend more time in nelson... but whatever. kaslo is my home. i love it there. i plan on living there, or somewhere in the general area.
at this point kalso and the kootenays is kind of like ... all the same thing.
and i think its the greatest place on earth... -

Fri, December 9, 2005 - 7:41 AMFar out!!
Even though I'm not the moderator or anything, I'd like to say that it's nice to see you in the group.
I guess that's what I was talking about. Kaslo is the place to go to just lighten up. I suppose too much of a good thing can be stressful, but I have yet to spend so much time there for that to happen -

Re: Surviving Kaslo
Sat, December 10, 2005 - 4:13 AMKaslo is a little drab in the winter.. so the hotsprings is a good place to go to get away from the winterchills/cabin fever. Ainsworth is a 20 min drive, but if you are feeling adventurous, you can drive over a valley and snowshoe into your own steamy winter paradise in the bush.
Places i go when i need to switch the ol kaslo gears:
the beach
up the river
fletcher Falls
nelson
the east shore
the studio
off the grid
up the lake
into my mind
into a book
sleep
there are lots of things, but they are all little things for me. Mexico is not an option... yet. -

Re: Surviving Kaslo
Tue, December 13, 2005 - 10:07 AMIf you go to Mexico, you might want to skip the west coast, it's dirty & scary. I personally found it sociologically interesting, but I have to admit the culture shock was a bit much. Of course I was there about a decade ago, so mayhap it's different now. -

Tue, December 13, 2005 - 4:07 PMAequlita, pls dont take my insult to trail in the other thread personally. I have my own reasons for not liking the place that much.
Its nothing against you for growing up there.
